|
What is Asthma? Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the airways, known as bronchial tubes. Asthma causes swelling and narrowing leading to constriction of the airways. This leads to problems breathing. The airways that are inlamed continuously can become very sensitive to irritants and allergen that trigger a reaction. These are known as triggers. Other common triggers are smoke, dust or even exercise. Asthma can be both mild and severe/chronic. Asthma is rapidly increasing in prevalence, now effecting as many as one in four children. |
